  • Get your private pilot certificate

The candidate must cover 40 hours of flying training to be a certified private pilot.

  • Achieve instrument rating

The second step is to achieve an instrument rating for becoming a commercial pilot. This allows candidates to navigate aircraft under instrument flight rules and operate aircraft in any weather. 

  • Acquire a commercial pilot license

The final step is to apply for a commercial pilot license, which requires the applicant to fly a high-standard aircraft for at least 10 hours or more. The candidate must complete about 250 or more hours of flight with 100 hours as the pilot-in-command and 50 hours of a cross-country flight to obtain a commercial pilot certificate. Then they can legally be paid for their service. 

The actual flying experience is a critical requirement for most commercial pilot jobs.
